HOW TO SERVE

Many times, the way in which you serve the tea is dependent upon your own preferences and/or to whom you are serving it. No matter which way you serve it, you will need the following items:

- Tea pot
- Strainer
- Tea cups
- Saucers
- Sugar or sweetener
- Milk (some use condensed)
- Tea spoons

Informal Serving: when you are enjoying a cup of tea yourself, or with good friends.

1. Use your informal tea set which includes a tea pot and tea cups. Saucers are not necessarily needed.
2. Once you brew the pot of tea, you can bring the tea pot and cups to the table. Each person can help themselves to the pot of tea – creating it to their liking. Each person will place the tea strainer over their cup of tea and pour the tea from the pot into it. The strainer will keep the loose tea leaves from entering the cup.

Formal Serving: when you just want to enjoy a fancy cup of tea, or when celebrating an occasion.

1. Use your formal tea set which is porcelain, ceramic, or bone china and has a matching tea pot, tea cups and saucers. A bone china set is the preferred material for a formal tea set.
2. Once you brew the pot of tea, you will serve each person a cup of tea and ask them for their preferences. As you pour each cup of tea, you will place a tea strainer over each cup to catch the loose tea leaves and prevent them from getting in the cup. Once the cup of tea is made to their liking, you will serve each person individually.
