About the Garden
Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, Kenilworth Garden is at an elevation of 2200 ft, making this a mid-grown tea. Passing through a cultivated landscape, the road to the estate is rural and the surroundings are lush. The region includes local farmers’ markets and workshops where artisans create cookware.
Named after the famous Kenilworth Castle in England, Kenilworth Garden produces 2 million pounds of tea per year and employs approximately 930 people around the plantation.
Located in the mountainous region of Dimbula, Kenilworth Garden receives more than 200 inches of rainfall per year with mild temperatures between 72 and 77 degrees. Historically, approximately 50% of the tea produced here is Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe (FBOP), Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) and Pekoe grades.
The Estate has won numerous awards for the quality of its teas, and sets an ethical standard in the region. With excellent worker relations and extra support for the local community, Kenilworth is proud to participate in the Ethical Tea Partnership, a non-profit organization with global reach.
In fact, Kenilworth Estate was declared the overall winner of all tea estates for its consistency in maintaining the highest standards of manufacturing in a 12 months period. Kenilworth is considered to be the hallmark of Ceylon medium grown teas.
