PLUCK Each day in Sri Lanka, approximately 300,000 tea estate workers pluck several million tea leaves by hand. Most often these workers, also known as tea pluckers, are women. Plucking is the first step in the creation of Plucker’s Pick Ceylon tea. Tea pluckers carefully pluck just the bud and two youngest leaves, as these are the leaves with the flavor and aroma, and are placed in baskets. In most parts of the world, plucking is done by machine and not by hand. In Sri Lanka, each leaf of Plucker’s Pick Ceylon Tea is plucked carefully by hand. Each tea plucker then brings their baskets to the processing area where the leaves are weighed and the first quality inspection is made. The leaves are then immediately driven to the factory to continue the process at their freshest stage. Tea leaves for Plucker’s Pick are plucked from one, single estate to ensure the highest quality of Ceylon tea. |
